The Technology Watch Bulletin for the BIOCIRCULARITY sector No. 57 (Third Quarter 2025) is now available

The BIOCIRCULARITY Technology Watch Bulletin No. 57 (Third Quarter 2025), produced by BIOPLAT, together with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM ES) and the Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), has just been published.

In this issue, the bulletin offers timely, concise and easy-to-read information on the latest patents published in the field of biogenic CO₂ capture and recovery.

The production and use of biofuels and bioenergy also generate biogenic carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from processes such as combustion, fermentation and biomass treatment.

Europe emits approximately 506.7 million tonnes of biogenic CO₂ per year, much of which is released into the atmosphere. Although this CO₂ is part of the short-term carbon cycle, its efficient management is essential to maximise the environmental benefits of bioenergy.

In this regard, exploring carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) strategies presents a key opportunity to harness this still underutilised potential.
