Spanish Technology and Innovation Platforms present a report on innovation challenges in the construction sector

On 15 October, at the State Research Agency, the Conference on Innovation in the Construction Sector was held, promoted by national Technology and Innovation Platforms related to the sector. During the event, success stories and challenges for the advancement of more sustainable construction were analysed, in addition to the presentation of a report that brings together the main challenges and opportunities for technological development in the short and medium term in the field of energy in the sector.

Margarita de Gregorio, secretary general of BIOPLAT, opened the symposium on the decarbonisation of building by explaining how biocircularity (the renewable part of the circular economy) can contribute in two ways: bio-based construction and structural materials and biofuels such as biomethane, which can be injected into gas networks. Rafael Varea (Nedgia, Naturgy Group) explained that boilers are a determining factor in housing refurbishment, as existing ones are already prepared for the use of renewable gases, such as biomethane, which are essential in the fight against air quality.

María Ángeles Ferre, head of the Scientific-Technical Thematic Programmes Subdivision of the State Research Agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, closed the event by applauding the Platforms for collaborating and working together to solve challenges and join forces to achieve global solutions, innovate, decarbonise and digitalise in a sector as important as the construction sector.
