Margarita de Gregorio, new president of the Alianza para la Sostenibilidad del Transporte Aéreo (AST)

The Alianza para la Sostenibilidad del Transporte Aéreo (AST) has appointed Margarita de Gregorio as President of the organisation. The secretary general of BIOPLAT has been ratified by the Executive Committee of the Alliance, both for her extensive professional career in the renewable and sustainability fields, as well as for her broad and extensive experience in public-private partnerships, which will play a central role in the decarbonisation of the aviation sector. With this appointment, AST grants Margarita de Gregorio the leadership and representation of this multi-sector collaboration mechanism, with the aim of providing a transversal response that contributes to achieving the environmental, economic and social sustainability of aviation.

AST was formed in April 2023 and is made up of entities from various sectors such as business, academia and the third sector, such as ALA, Airbus, Aena, AESA, Air Europa, Air Nostrum, AOP, Binter, Boeing, CEOE, ECODES Ecología y Desarrollo, ENAIRE, Exolum, IATA, Iberia, SENASA, TEDAE, Transport and Environment, the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and Vueling.

AST’s aims include leading the decarbonisation of the sector, covering all possible solutions and technologies to achieve it and boosting Spain’s industrial capacity to offer disruptive technologies, as well as other low-carbon alternatives and circular economy projects. It also encourages public-private collaboration to promote R&D&I and accelerate the development of low-carbon aircraft, promote the large-scale production of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) in Spain and the development of initiatives to ensure the circularity of the waste generated by the sector.
